SPRING: BLUEBELL SEASON IS HERE

Castle Coch Guide: The Fairy-Tale Castle Walk on Cardiff’s Doorstep Click Here

If there's one thing that makes April in Wales truly special, it's bluebells. From hidden river valleys to the exposed clifftops of Skomer Island, the woodlands are carpeted with bluebells right now and they won't hang around for long.

Some of the best spots to catch them this week: Coed Cefn near Crickhowell in the Brecon Beacons, known locally as Bluebell Wood, is free to visit and stunning right now. Down south, Margam Country Park in Port Talbot has some of the finest displays in South Wales, with trails winding through wildflower-rich woodland. And if you're up for the trip west, Skomer Island off Pembrokeshire turns blue and green in late spring. Combine it with early puffin season in May and you've got one of the best days out in Wales, full stop.

Closer to Cardiff? Fforest Fawr above Tongwynlais, the woods behind Castell Coch, is carpeted in April and May with trails for all the family. For our guide Click Here

The Forest Feastival lands at Candleston Woods in Merthyr Mawr from 17 April — street food, live music and one of the most quietly spectacular settings in South Wales. And if you fancy something a little more traditional, Wonderwool Wales takes over the Royal Welsh Showground from 22 April, celebrating Welsh wool and natural fibres in the way only Wales can pull off.

Meanwhile, the most consequential Senedd election since devolution is just three weeks away. Polls have it neck and neck between Plaid Cymru and Reform UK, with Labour potentially finishing third for the first time in Welsh history. If you're not registered to vote, the deadline is 20 April.

As always, this newsletter exists because of you and people who love this country as much as I do. Thank you for being part of the All in Wales community.
