🏴 EDITORS PICK 🏴
Monster Trucks and Barry Island
For the first time, two of the Vale's loveliest events have linked arms. Gŵyl Fach y Fro and Run4Wales have teamed up to bring a whole weekend of Welsh music, culture and good vibes — and all of it free. Gŵyl Fach y Fro on Saturday 16 May, and the Barry Island 10K on Sunday 17 May. One location, two days of pure buzz. You can click here for the full Visit the Vale rundown.
Saturday is the gentle one. Now in its 11th year, Gŵyl Fach y Fro — organised by Menter Iaith Bro Morgannwg — turns the promenade and gardens into a vibrant hub of Cymraeg. Live music, hands-on workshops, performances and local stalls, the whole programme delivered in Welsh and built equally for fluent speakers, learners, and the merely curious.
Then Sunday turns the promenade into a starting line. More than 4,600 runners are registered across all distances for the Barry Island 10K, which sold out weeks in advance — so if you're not running, you're cheering. And cheering at Barry Island on a sunny morning, ice cream already in hand by 10am, is genuinely one of the better ways to start a Sunday. Expect a great atmosphere around the course and at the finish line, plus a packed event village for the rest of the family. Click here for the Run4Wales event page
A practical heads-up: this is a busy weekend for South Wales generally — Monster Jam is rolling into the Principality at the same time. Transport for Wales has confirmed extra train services across South Wales for 16–17 May to handle the demand, with added capacity on routes to Cardiff, Swansea and Barry. Honestly, leave the car at home. Barry Island station drops you about five minutes from the action, and the Vale of Glamorgan line on a sunny Saturday is its own small pleasure.
As always, this newsletter exists because of you and people who love this country as much as I do. Thank you for being part of the All in Wales community.
