BANK HOLIDAY SCORCHER! ☀️

Three days off, sunshine in the forecast, and a country full of things to do. If you've been waiting for an excuse to get out of the house, this is it. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The Spring Bank Holiday lands on Monday 25 May, giving us a proper three-day weekend from Saturday 23rd to Monday 25th — and for a lot of families it also kicks off the May half-term week. Let's make it count.

☀️ The weather — and yes, it's actually good

For once we're not burying bad news. The forecast across Cardiff and South Wales is genuinely lovely:

🌤️ Saturday — bright with a touch of cloud, around 21°C ☀️ Sunday — warming up nicely, climbing toward 27°C 🔥 Monday — the big one: clear skies and highs near 31°C

Suncream, water bottles, and a hat. Treat the heat with respect — and check on elderly neighbours and pets. This is the first proper scorcher of the year, so don't get caught out.

🎪 What's on across Wales

There's something for every mood this weekend — festival energy, family days out, food, or just a quiet pint in a beer garden.

🎶 In It Together Festival — Old Park Farm, Margam (Fri 22 – Mon 25 May) The big one. A large-scale, family-friendly music and arts festival with multiple stages, a broad mix of mainstream and alternative acts, and dedicated family camping and kids' areas. If you've got tickets, lucky you — if not, it's still the cultural heartbeat of the weekend in South Wales.

🔊 Coalesce Festival — Three Pools, Abergavenny (Fri 22 – Sun 24 May) Back for its fourth year. An intimate festival celebrating UK sound-system culture in a gorgeous setting — drum & bass, techno, UK garage and more for the bass-heads.

🛠️ Bank Holiday Makers Market — St Fagans National Museum of History, Cardiff (Sat 23 May, free entry) A brilliant family shout. Local artists, crafters, bakers and independent Welsh businesses set up among the historic buildings — and you've got the whole museum and grounds to explore for free while you're there.

🏰 Fonmon Castle — Vale of Glamorgan (Sat 23 – Mon 25 May, tickets from £12) A gorgeous castle-and-gardens day out, well worth the short trip from Cardiff.

🍔 Cardiff Market Late-Night Market — Cardiff (Fri 22 May, free) One of the city's oldest buildings transformed for the evening — street food, cocktails, live music and independent traders. A lovely low-key way to start the long weekend.

🌲 Nature Explorers Week — GreenWood Family Park, North Wales (half-term week) For families heading north: snakes, lizards, tortoises and more — proper hands-on fun for the kids over the school break.

📚 HowTheLightGetsIn — Hay-on-Wye (Fri 22 – Mon 25 May) Big ideas in a beautiful border town — philosophy, music and debate. Perfect for anyone wanting a long weekend that feeds the brain as well as the soul.

🚗 Before you set off

🚙 Roads will be busy — expect heavy traffic on the M4, and on routes toward the coast and the Beacons, especially Monday. Travel early or late if you can.

🚆 Bank holiday weekends often mean engineering works on the railways — check Transport for Wales before you travel, particularly if you're heading to a festival.

🅿️ Coastal car parks and popular beauty spots fill up fast in this kind of weather. Have a plan B in your pocket.
