JUNE - WELSH PRIDE & CONCERT SEASON

There's a particular feeling that arrives in Wales in early June. The hedgerows are heavy with cow parsley and dog rose. The light hangs around until nearly ten at night. The fields are loud with lambs that aren't quite lambs anymore. And every coastal car park from Borth to Barafundle starts filling up.

It's the moment when Wales properly opens up. This is the sweet spot of the year — long days, cool sea, festival season cracking open, and the diary suddenly busy in every direction. The forecast can't quite make its mind up just yet, but the country's ready.

Here's where to be and what to know this weekend.

🏳️‍🌈 Saturday — Pride takes over the south

Three town and county Prides are running on Saturday 6 June, all in south Wales, all free or low-cost, and all easy to get to from Cardiff and the M4 corridor.

Bridgend Pride — Llangewydd Arms, Broadlands. 2pm to 11pm. A full day of community celebration, followed by an after-party. No parade this year; the day stays anchored at the venue.
Torfaen Pride — Pontypool Park. Family-friendly, free entry, with stages and stalls across the park.
Barry Pride — Kings Square and Central Park. A proper coastal Pride a quick train ride from Cardiff Central.

All three are inclusive, family-welcome events, and the weather looks workable — bring a light layer.

🏃 Sunday — Swansea Half Marathon

The biggest summer fun run in Wales rolls along Swansea Bay on Sunday 7 June. The route starts at Swansea Arena, winds through the city, then opens onto roughly five miles of coastal road along the bay — a fast, flat, closed-road course that draws PB hunters every year.

If you're heading to Swansea:

Expect rolling road closures around the city centre and along the bay from early morning through to early afternoon.
Mumbles Road, Oystermouth Road and the prom will be the busiest pinch points.
Plenty of free entertainment along the route if you're spectating — bring a coat, bring a chair, bring noise.

🎶 Outdoor Concert Season Begins

If you've not kept up, Cardiff effectively has two Depots running this summer. The Depot warehouse on Curran Road remains the city's pop-up events HQ (Bingo Lingo, Hip Hop Karaoke, food markets), while Depot Live at Cardiff Castle has become the city's flagship summer concert series, running roughly mid-June through July on the Castle Green.

The Castle series properly opens this weekend — and the line-up for the next nine days is genuinely stacked.

🏰 Depot Live at Cardiff Castle

Sat 6 June, 2pm — CHRIS STUSSY. The Dutch house heavyweight headlines the season opener. Founder of the Up The Stuss label, regular at DC10 and Hï in Ibiza. A proper afternoon-into-evening open-air dance party in the Castle grounds.
Thu 11 June, 5pm — PETE TONG presents IBIZA CLASSICS, with The Essential Orchestra. Support from K-Klass and Mousse T. The biggest dance anthems of the last 30 years — Faithless, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk — reimagined with a full orchestral live show. Hands-in-the-air territory.
Fri 12 June, 5pm — MIKA, with support from The Feeling and GWENNO. The official Pride Cymru weekend opener. Mika's first ever Cardiff show — Grace Kelly, Love Today, Lollipop, Relax (Take It Easy). Mercury-nominated Welsh artist Gwenno opens the night with her bilingual synth-pop. Likely to be one of the gigs of the year.
Sat 13 June — LOUISE & KATE NASH with 911. Pop-nostalgia headliner running into Pride Cymru weekend.

🌦️ Weather — the weekend and into next week

A genuinely mixed picture, with Saturday the wettest day and Sunday the brighter one. Pack a light layer either way.

☀️ Friday 5 June — 16°C Partly sunny with dry spells and a light breeze. A workable day for getting out.

🌧️ Saturday 6 June — 16°C The wet one. Scattered showers throughout, breezy, around a 70% chance of rain. Bring a waterproof if you're heading to any of the Prides.

⛅ Sunday 7 June — 17°C Brighter and warmer, with drier spells and just the odd shower. The better outdoors day of the weekend.

🌦️ Monday 8 June — 16°C Showery again, wet at times, around a 70% chance of rain through the day.

🌤️ Tuesday 9 June — 16°C Settling down at last. Drier, with sunny intervals returning.

Bottom line for the weekend: Saturday's the day to bring a jacket — Sunday's the better outdoors bet, whether you're spectating along Swansea Bay or heading to Chris Stussy at the Castle.
